What purpose is there in HDMI for elite ...

I may be wrong. However I can't figure what purpose the HDMI port in the elite and premium serves without a HD movie format like HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. Microsoft has announced that it doesn't want a blu ray player and that its going to support the downloads on Xbox Live Marketplace. HD movies are very large files and downloading them across Xbox live will take a long time. Plus you don't get all of that extra content like interviews, trailers, deleted scenes or behind the scene content. Plus a large majority of Xbox users bought the Premium with its 20gig HDD. After you use the OS for Xbox it comes to about 14 gigs. Not enough for a growning movie collection and you can't share them with friends. So the once big news about HDMI port is now a non factor in the console arsenal. Sad. Just goes to show that this system wasn't thought out very well.PS. don't use quote to many times or we will get locked. Unless that's your point of doing so. Cause the last few forums were post were closed for that reason. What purpose is there in HDMI for elite ...
I think many are temporary rentals. They stay on the HDD but are erased after a set time. So people should be able to keep a few at a time on their drive. What purpose is there in HDMI for elite ...
For gaming in HD.......although most games don't even run at a native HD resolution.

Just goes to show you have no idea what you are talking about. The HD movies are rentals the only thing you buy is the TV shows and you can download them again once you buy them if you have to take them off your harddrive. The DL speeds for the TV shows and movies is excelllent. It's limited more by your own connection than the other end.The HDMI is for 1080p games even though they are not the norm. It's also a tidier connection and takes care of digital sound and video in one cable.

Also, component can do 1080p just fine, so that can't be the only reason.
Wow, self owned BADLY. GTFO.
No the only way to get 1080p on 360 is through a VGA or HDMI connection. It might allow for some different video settings I don't know for sure. You aren't going to see a huge difference either way because 1080p is mostly hype unless you play on a really big screen. I tried using 1080p mode on my LCD TV that supports that format with my 360 and it wouldn't display anything when I set it to 1080p over component.
how about... for gaming?

Sorry buddy, but my TV displays 1080p resolution through component.

Sorry buddy, but my TV displays 1080p resolution through component.[/QUOTE] Pics or it didnt happen.Edit: Sorry buddy but apparently it depends on your TV itself if it will work or not. It does not work on my Mistubishi but apparently Samsung and Sharp it works fine for games.

And for good tvs with 1080p, there is a difference.

Some TV manufactures have sidestepped this law and have made tvs that will display 1080p through component anyway.
*scratches head* well first off there are a few tvs that display 1080p content fine over component, the only thing HDMI was ever needed for was tight ass movie studios that wan't yet another strict way of controlling they're movies because hdmi has so many digital signature checks.

I have an hd dvd addon i paid 50 bux for and i watch hd dvd movies since i've got 31 of them and have only watched about 5 of them, but even i dont need hdmi cause i only can view my movies in 1080i or 720p the whole hdmi thing is only limiting to 1080p content, games? doesn't matter cause hdmi doesn't limit games like it does hd movies. But i think the reason they have it because its an all digital connection that carries sound and picture.

Sounds like this is happening with what Jive is talking about.

HDMI > Component, +more common HDTV have 1-3hdmi than 1-3 Component.
