By reading a few of these forums you'll notice that a lot of people hate on games that are super popular.I've noticed a certain trend with SSBB (as it just came out and is the prime target). With games like Halo, GTA, etc. most of the people hating on it seem to claim (as there is no way to tell for sure) that they are sick of that game/genre, while most people who hate on SSBB make claims that lead me to believe they didn't really put time into it (playing for less than 20 mins) or people who just don't get it.Now I'm not saying ''everybody'' so don't fly off the handle, this is just what I've noticed with the baseless claims like SSBB being a button masher with no depth.Anybody agree/dissagree with me? Or care to share any other ''hating'' trends you noticed... besides the obvious ''people hate because ____ is popular''People who hate on popular games
I disliked Doom. That's the main thing I hate alot. I enjoyed Halo 3 till CoD4 was released, and I enjoyed CoD4 till I grabbed Lost Odyssey. I just find that virtually every games get old for me fast :| I probably spend more on games than on food :PPeople who hate on popular games
well the smash series never had killer combos or mega death move but i always loved it, its like jrpg to wrpg, both are fun in their own way

I get sick of games quickly, especially when they're just the same thing over and over. Rewarding games (not achievements, an actual reward for playing) are the best, along with simple, addictive games. I don't like Halo because it's the same thing the whole way through - no gameplay changes.
so don't fly off the handle
Good luck with that lol. I've made threads here asking what everyones favorite genre is and I got flamed for that if you can believe it.
I hate a lot of popular games and it has nothing to do with them being trendy. I also love a lot of popular games.

I don't hate on popular games, I hate on games that I have played and suck.
It's funny, as popular as GTA IV is already (w/o being released) it seems to be getting very little hate the closer we get to it's release.
LOL, not everone is going to agree and just automatically love games that are ''popular'', just because they are popular. You know, there is a thing called, personal preference. So, just because a particular game may be a number one best seller, there will still always be people who simply do not like the game. And not because they just want to hate it in order to try and ''be cool'', either. Everyone just has different tastes, get over it, lol.
I hate people who try to be ''unique'' by hating on everything that is popular and only liking things that nobody has ever heard of. Not just with games, but with everything, especially music.
Hating on popular games makes the infantile feel better - it helps them cope with the jealousy and the humiliation that they feel when someone else gets something 'better' than they have. But we musn't hate the haters - they need an outlet, after all, for all that angst - their little pinched faces turning crimson with impotent indignation at the very thought that someone else might have a better toy than they do...
I hate people who try to be ''unique'' by hating on everything that is popular and only liking things that nobody has ever heard of. I laugh at people who hate on bands like Metallica and Pantera and say they are casual, and then name off some nobody-ever-heard-of-band and say ''they are teh hardcore because they are underground''.
the reason people hate popular games is because they want to be non-conformists. you often hear people say ''its overrated'' or ''its not as good as people make it seem'' ironically, hating on a popular game for the sake of non-conformity is also a type conformity. who would have guessed?

I disagree by personal experience. I hate a lot of popular games, but that's because they are so easy to see the faults in, and I always play a game before I outright judge it.
I find the whole GTA series pretty meh. It's never amazed me or anything. I don't hate it, but i don't not like it very much because other people do. It's just some people honestly don't have the same taste as other people. I mean, i bet there are people who thought RE4 was meh. IMO it's the best game ever made (tying with oot), but i'm sure they don't like it just because i do.
Big difference between blind hate and genuine dislike. A lot of the time the two get confused.

Indeed. However there are a lot of people out there who don't just hate on a game to be ''non-conformist.'' That seems to be more of a thing with trendy fads like ''emo'' or something along those lines...
For gaming there are just massive-appeal games that don't appeal to a smaller group of people. They aren't trying to be non-conformist, the game just doesn't appeal to them naturally or doesn't suit their preferences.
