Playstation 3, Blu-ray, and the Naturali ...

When people argue about sales, particularly pertaining to PS3 vs. 360 sales, the counter-claim is often raised that PS3 is selling better than its chief rival only because it is a Blu-ray player, or that Sony or its userbase cares more about movies than games. Those may be true. In the advent of Blu-ray's victory over rival HD DVD, the PS3's perceived value has increased because consumers who are looking for an inexpensive Blu-ray player are no longer risking a short-lived purchase by buying a PS3.However, that the PS3 is selling because it incorporates a Blu-ray player is a separate issue from whether it ought to be selling as a Blu-ray player. Some gamers get these two concepts mixed up. One of them is a descriptive assertion, and the other is a prescriptive, or value-laden question.Countering the statement that the PS3 is outselling the 360 by arguing that the PS3 is not doing so via ''legitimate'' means (i.e. through compelling game software) is rebutting a descriptive claim with a prescriptive one. Gamers may feel passionately that consoles ought to sell on their merits as game machines, but converting that sentiment into a rebuttal against a sales assertion is committing the ''is-ought'' fallacy--or more commonly, the ''naturalistic fallacy.'' David Hume, originator of the ''is-ought'' problemPlaystation 3, Blu-ray, and the Naturali ...
Come back to me when a PS3 exclusive cracks the top 10 game sales. Maybe in June? Playstation 3, Blu-ray, and the Naturali ...
Come back to me when a PS3 exclusive cracks the top 10 game sales. Maybe in June?
What does that have to do with anything?
Come back to me when a PS3 exclusive cracks the top 10 game sales. Maybe in June?
...and the first response commits another fallacy: the inductive informal fallacy of a ''red herring'' argument.
dude! freaky! right this moment, I'm reading a chapter on ''Fallacies of Arguement'' in my Comp II textbook. Wierd! :lol:Anyway, you make another good point.
SW and logical fallacies go together like chocolate and peanut butter.Everyone has their own reason to buy or not to buy a product and every one is perfectly valid within their personal context.
The PS3 are selling without killer apps, and why do you think that is? Uncharted? Lair? Here's a hint, blu ray. So once an exclusive is out and if it cracks the top 10 game sales, then noone can deny that the PS3 is a gaming machine not just a blu ray player.

that's another reason why we use games to determine the winner. :)

How can people directly compare the sales of a mutliplat games between two consoles when one has a much large user base than the other. That really doesn't make much sense. Unless they do a percetange of PS3 users that bought cod 4, bump the PS3 user base to that of teh 360 and then make an estimated number how much many copies would have sold if they userbase was the same. But I'm pretty sure that's alot of BS I just said there.I figure I'd post that in here instead of making a new thread.
