Sales count.
People can whinge and cry all they like, just because your favourite console isnt winning this generation doesn't mean you can change the metric by which the winner is decided.
Sales have always decided who was the winner.
Why?
because sales represent the Console's popularity
Which console has the best games is offcourse another matter and is entirly up to 'individual' opinion.
Sales however is a worldwide consensus on the most popular console and thus confirms it as the winner.
Period.Sales determine the winner of a generati ...
To companies - Net Profits/marketshare/gross revenue To general media - marketshareTo gamers - games , services , reliability , support , etc , etc , etc. Sales determine the winner of a generati ...
okay :)
i do feel like having a ginger biscuit for ome reason.

Nope, thats all subjective, to what people consider better games, better services, better support for a console. Individual subjectiveness is not a successfull metric.
If a console sells more, its more popular, and at the end of the generation is the winner. Its that simple, always has been. Because sales are a representation of the games, services, reliability and support for a console, by more consumers buying 1 particular console, means they vote that it has the best features, services relability games, whatever
I always found the winner of a generation is which i like the most and not what sells the most! I'm not caring which console sells the best or worst as long as i enjoy myself. People can argue all day long on what makes the console the so called King of XX generation as i will be to busy playing games.Overall yeah in general your correct sales does matter.
With gamers , it will always be a subjective thing , that part is true ........ that is why some people truly feel that the xbox or gamecube won last generation or that the 360 is winning now.
TC is right. Sales still determine the winner.

@Nike_Air - If anyone truley believes that GC or Xbox won overall against the ps2 then thats just plain biased thinking. Sure it could have one on a personal level but the ps2 has sold millions more consoles then the others... thus millions more people preferred it
TC is right. Sales still determine the winner.
I will go one further, software sales, not console sales will determine the winner. At least, in my opinion. The fact that there will be alot of people buying a PS3 solely for the blu-ray capability and not for games throws console sales out the window, because it wont be a true representation of consoles gamers buy. But in all true honesty, who really cares? If you are getting the games to make you happy, then what does it really matter to any of us?

But console sales is how it has always been. You're right, I don't care either, just saying how it is.

I really can't speak as to how many millions more preferred the ps2 , it is just that they preferred plunking down the money for one for who knows what reason ....... many millions might have been completely unsatisfied with the product , who knows ?That is why there will never be a true universal winner for gamers. That is why we can all be here are argue about how our system is the best. If the general media wants to crown PS2 and now the Wii as the winner , I can accept that ...... I know where they are coming from. If a gamer says the 360 is winning right now I can accept their opinion ....... I know where they are coming from.
The Wii can have all the sales and be the winner of this gen. Your Wii still sucks.
I agree sales determine the best console even if for example the Wii is technically inferior to PS3 %26 X360... Games also are an important factor but that goes down to personal taste therefore the true success for a console is determined by its overall sales during its lifespan.. So we have to wait till this generation is over and Sony/MS/Nintendo all release their wave of next-gen consoles... Its still a long way to crown a console winner of this generation... We all have to wait and see :)PSN ID: anubis1980

We're only 1 year in, the wii may span off and the ps3 may start to gain sales, who knows?
When a system sells good, that means consumers share interest in the product. Consumers decide the Winner of the console wars.
